We love films here at Northern Aficionado especially those set in the North. One film that fits the bill is the late sixties classic Kes. Set in Barnsley the film follows the life of a young Barnsley lad named Billy who is bullied at both home, by his brother Jud, and at school. His one dear friend is his much loved Kestrel who is brutally killed by Jud. This sad yet fantastic tale of Billy's life is up there with our favourite films and who can forget the superb football scene where we have some comic genius in the form of the PE teacher who believes that he is Bobby Charlton and Billy spends the duration of the game swinging on the crossbar. Kes was given recognition by Casual Connoisseur last year who made a wonderful t-shirt honouring the film. Note Billy's excellent dress sense in the bottom picture, sporting a charming shirt and cagoule combination.
