Rainy Days.

Here in sunny Yorkshire it hasn’t stopped raining for two days. I don’t know about anyone else but this has got us in the mood for a decent raincoat.
Nothing else really fits the bill but a Patagonia and the technical styling is the perfect antidote to the heritage overdose seen of late. It doesn’t just look good but stops the rain getting through perfectly and would go great with a nice pair of New Balance or Nike Huarache’s.

Belt up.

So you’ve bought a new pair of jeans for summer, you don't want to be wearing a bog-standard belt with them after you’ve spent up to £100 or more on them, do you? That would just look, well, shit. So our pick of the bunch has to be an Anderson belt. Coming in a range of colours, these woven belts are a timeless classic.

Fjallraven Nordli

It's no secret that we have a love for fjallraven here, you may remember our post which was about their superb Kanken backpack. This time we're featuring another piece which we love equally as much, the Nordli jacket. Constructed from their G1000 material the jacket is a real favourite of ours. It has been released in a number of colours including navy and black, which is the colour that one of us here at Northern Aficionado owns. A real favourite on the terrace, in the town, at the pub or up a mountain.

In other news we were featured on the peaceful hooligan blog today, our good friends over at PH said some rather flattering stuff about issue one. Available from us direct (via email), trickett and distant echo.

Our Album Recommendation This Week.

The title of this post suggests we recommend a new album every week. In reality, we all know that isn't going to happen.

However, this week saw the release of Bad Bad Not Good's second album. If you haven't heard BBNG before, then have a good listen to their first and their recently released second album, both available for free on their website. As well as producing original material, they cover everything from Earl Sweatshirt to Joy Division, and even a bit of Ol' Dirty Bastard. If free albums weren't good enough, they even play in pig masks, so you can't complain. Download their albums here.

Polo shirts we like at the minute

Another quality item from the guys at Casualco was released yesterday in the form of long sleeved polo shirt in available in blue and orange. A simple yet truely brilliant design. Its available from their website for the price of £47 although a number of sizes in blue have already gone. However, you can buy it from a number of other stockists - all of which are mentioned on their blog.

Another polo which we like is the lacoste navy pique polo. Another simple design but this is an absolute classic. We found this truely amazing polo from oi polloi but we're sure there are other stockists.

The final polo on our list has to be from the 6876 x Fred Perry collaboration. This is just one from a fine collection.

Waking Up Surrounded By The White Stuff.

I opened my curtains this morning to see a thick blanket of snow covering the garden. Bugger, that’s all my plans out of the window. Instead it looks like I’ll be spending a day indoors looking at clothes I can’t afford and watching films I’ve seen before. I guess I can’t really complain at that, but what happens when I have to venture out to the shop for snacks though. I obviously need a smart pair of boots on my feet to go with my REI jacket and cords.
The view from... The Garden.
This is where Fracap step in. With the cool Scarponcini Boot in Marro Leather your feet will be warm and your socks will be dry. Smiles all around. Fitted with a Vibram sole those steps outside your house are no longer a problem as well. These boots are a vital in winter, and in Spring it seems.

Northern Aficionado Facebook Page.

We have recently made ourselves a Facebook page. Like it for updates and news etc

The link can be found here.

Issue One - Limited numbers left

We still have some left available but they have been selling very well since their release yesterday with orders coming from across the globe! If you want a copy email us at northern-aficionado@hotmail.co.uk similarly we are also still accepting subscriptions. Email us for more info.

Also, a new blog feature we intend to run is a feature on you, the reader. If you want to be our Aficionado of the week drop us an email.

Shogun Assassin

Everyone loves a good film, and us here at Northern Aficionado are no exception. One genre we do tend to stray away from though is Martial Arts. So on the recommendation of my brother and a friend I decided to sit down and watch the Shogun Assassin.
The front cover of the DVD case boasted that, “It’s impossible to keep a body count!” Whoever wrote that certainly wasn’t wrong. The film tells the story of Lone Wolf. This Lone Wolf fella basically goes out with his infant son avenging the death of his wife. The box also boasted “The blood gushes out all over the screen - as if being hosed into the camera!!” So with gallons upon gallons of fake blood and some of the worst dubbing in the history of film, Shogun Assassin is an ace watch and we’d definitely recommend it to anyone.
